What?
Alright, I just finished building my video editing PC, and before I downloaded the mac OS on it I downloaded Ubuntu. After I downloaded Ubuntu I downloaded kdenlive.... I ran into the same problem of unsupported file types for rendering. I had forgotten what I did to fix in the past, so I had to go back and re-research it. So now for your benefit I am going to give instructions for how to fix this problem.
How to Fix it?
1. Install kdenlive
2. Delete the the kdenliverc file .kde<share<config<kdenliverc
3. Open your terminal
4. Paste the following commands one at a time (Note: The first command will ask for your password, but after that it's just copy. enter.)
5. sudo -E wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list
6. sudo apt-get --quiet update
7. sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring
9. Close terminal
10. Open Ubuntu software center
11. search "codec" without the quotes
12. install the first thing that comes up (Note: it should be Ubuntu extras)
